Thermoforming of a Closeout for use in the Military Industry

Since its founding in 1973, Hagans Plastics Co., Inc. has grown to become a leader in the industry while providing state-of-the-art thermoforming, injection molding, CNC, design, and tooling services.

The project highlighted here was a closeout part for unmanned drones used in the military. The part carried a high level of difficulty in the forming and the trimming operation and featured a severe undercut/trap on the mold. Our cutting edge systems and processes allowed for the removal of witness lines of breakaway tooling from appearing in the cosmetic side of the part. Along with the use of a 5-axis CNC router, the part was fabricated with dimensions of 20″ long, 13″ wide, and 6″ tall. Due to its durability and chemical resistance, KYDEX^® was used to fabricate the closeout, and it featured a standard finish. The project represented a total volume of 500 units. All work was performed to AS9100 aerospace and ISO 9001 industry standards.
